Isabel Carlisle talks about her recent learning journey to India to visit centres such as Bija Vidyapeeth, Barefoot College and Shikshantar in Udaipur. She explores the concepts of unlearning and gift culture that she experienced in action at Swaraj University and the Learning Societies Unconference outside Mumbai and how these could play a role in learning for the future. In particular, she relates them to the two programmes she is currently working on: Schools in Transition and Transition Learning Journey.
Isabel Carlisle lives in Totnes, Devon, and is a Trustee of Transition Town Totnes. She is heading up a new education strategy (for ages 5 to 25) within the international Transition Town movement that will create an inspiring home for youth action on sustainability. (Transition Towns are a community-led response to the triple challenges of climate change, the end of cheap energy and economic contraction. They are one of the fastest growing social movements in the world today, visit: www.transitionnetwork.org
