Update on behalf of Jenny Mackewn

Dear All

I am delighted that, at their last meeting, the trustees gave the green light for a new overarching learning structure at Dartington which will be led by the Dartington Learning Executive (DLE).  This will help to secure the future of Schumacher College.

The trustees have agreed that The Old Postern can remain as the spiritual home and base for Schumacher College, while allowing other Dartington Learning programmes to use it, and that a second base can be developed at Foxhole.   However they have emphasised that both are subject to the development and implementation of a sustainable business plan.

They have also confirmed we will retain a Head of College position, however there will be some changes to the internal structure of the College. I have agreed to continue to act as interim Head of College until Spring 2019.

The recently formed College Coordination Group, led by myself, will continue as the primary group responsible for delivery of the College’s overall offer to students and short course participants.

As a long term strategy the DLE would like to see three core learning facilities (Foxhole, High Cross House and the Old Postern) supporting the wider Dartington Learning portfolio.

We are still at a very early stage with the development of Dartington Learning and there are many details yet to be considered but there are exciting opportunities ahead for closer collaboration with our other colleagues on the estate.

Other details will be become clearer in the coming months but the next step is to develop a formal business plan to be presented at the next meeting of the Board of Trustees in December.

With appreciation,

Jenny
