Head of Schumacher College Jon Rae has announced his decision to step down at the end of March.

Satish Kumar, one of the founders of the College, paid tribute to Jon, who has been in the post since January 2012. He said:

“Jon has served the college with diligence, devotion, determination and delight.  He is an exemplary leader and has directed the college with humility and humour.

Jon possesses many wonderful skills of management which have helped to establish good relationships with the University of Plymouth and University of Wales Trinity Saint David as well as strong connections with our illustrious visiting teachers.

Above all Jon is an inspiration to our thoughtful students of all ages who come from many countries and backgrounds, in search of knowledge and experience in holistic learning and living.

Under Jon’s visionary leadership the college has established itself as a harmonious and thriving community of the student body, resident faculty and administrative staff at Dartington as well as Schumacher Worldwide, an emerging, yet a strong network of 15,000 alumni and 30,000 friends in over 90 countries.  This is a wonderful achievement.

On behalf of everyone at the college as well as my own behalf, I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude and millions of thanks to Jon for the selfless service he has offered to the college during his tenure.

We will miss him very much, but we wish him the best of luck. Our love and support will go with him wherever he goes and whatever he does.  Anyone wishing to contact Jon, can do so through LinkedIn.”

An announcement on plans for Jon’s successor will be made shortly.
