Visiting Schumacher College and the Dartington Campus

Please check where your course will be held as we use various locations across the Dartington Campus.  Schumacher College is close to the entrance of the estate on the left.  The Elmhirst Centre is based up the hill at Dartington Hall, a 15 minute walk from Schumacher College.  At the top of the hill, turn left, and walk through the archway to the courtyard and the centre is in top right hand corner.

By train: Totnes is on the Inter-city train network.  London Paddington (approx 3 hours; Birmingham 3.5 hours; Plymouth 30 mins. It is advisable to purchase tickets before your day of travel.

By bike:  There is a cycle path runs from the South Devon Railway car park at Totnes Train Station. Follow signs for Riverside Walk to the main drive of Dartington Hall. The path continues to the Cider Press and onwards to Schumacher College. Total distance is about 2 miles.

On foot: Pedestrians can use the cycle path which takes about 40 minutes.

By taxis: From Totnes Station to Schumacher College costs between £5 and £10 (slightly more on public holidays)

By bus: From Totnes  Monday – Saturday (Except Public Holidays). Number 165 is direct but infrequent. We suggest calling Traveline on 0871 200 22 33 (high cost line) or www.traveline.info to check times.

By coach: National Express runs one coach a day direct to Totnes from London Victoria via Heathrow Airport. Journey time is about 5 hours. Phone 08717 818178 for current timetable or visit their website: www.nationalexpress.com

By car: Dartington lies a few miles south of the main A 38 Exeter to Plymouth Devon Expressway which links Exeter to the M5 and the rest of the national motorway system.

From Exeter: From the M5 take the A38 as far as the A384 Buckfastleigh turn-off and follow the signs for Totnes. After about five miles there is a roadside sign for Dartington. A little further on, turn left at Dartington Church.

From Plymouth:  take the A38 as far as the A385 turn-off beyond South Brent, signposted Dartington. On reaching the mini-roundabout in Dartington (approx. 3 miles) with the Cider Press Centre in front of you, take the left exit towards Buckfastleigh and Ashburton and after about quarter of a mile turn right at Dartington Church.  The Old Postern is the first building on the left next to Dartington Church. There is plenty of car parking, although we ask people to leave cars in the main car parking area, situated at the end of the College drive.
