Michael Martin: Design Through Making

The purpose of this dissertation is to illustrate the connection between design, making and my worldview, or how I see the physical world around me. In a world where irreversible and abrupt climate change is looking increasingly likely , I feel an urgency to cultivate ways to design and make the world around me with care and humility, much as my ancient ancestors did before me, as do the many indigenous societies that still exist around the world today. I believe that these traditional societies have been living lightly on the Earth for many generations and if we are all ancestors in the making then as an ancestor myself I have a responsibility to my future ancestors to ensure the safe keeping of this Earth that they will one day inherit from me, just as I did from my ancestors.
