7:15 - 7:45am | Optional meditation The day begins with a period of quiet contemplation and the cultivation of self-knowledge – sometimes guided, sometimes not |
7:45 - 8:30am | Breakfast Usually porridge, cereals, toast, yogurt and juice |
8:30 - 8:45am | Morning meeting The community meets to talk about the coming day, share a reading and awaken body and mind |
8:45 - 9:30am | Community groups The community is involve in cleaning the facilities, making meals or gardening for 30-45 minutes |
10:00 - 11:15am 1st Morning session 11:15 - 11:45am Coffee break 11:45 - 1:00pm 2nd Morning session |
Teaching From 10am to 1pm with a coffee break in the middle. Often the first session is a lecture and the second session more interactive |
1:00 - 2:00pm | Lunch Always vegetarian, organic or locally sourced if possible, soups, salads, and breads – all made in the Schumacher kitchen |
2:15 - 4:30pm | Afternoons Often more loosely structured to give participants time personalise their learning experience. It could be a field trip to the coast or Dartmoor and offers the opportunity for reflection. On one or two days, the teacher might offer a tutorial. |
4:30 - 6:30pm | Participants help prepare dinner, usually a very popular activity! |
6:30 - 7:30pm | Dinner |
8:15 - 9:30pm | Evening session This might include a public talk, an open discussion, or a party on the last evening of a course |
