Schumacher College Scholarships : acknowledging change-makers of the future

We're proud to offer a partial scholarship for MA Economics For Transition and MA Ecological Design Thinking programmes and we welcome scholarship applications from all students. The decision on this prestigous award will be made by faculty.

Who is eligible to apply?
To be considered for a Schumacher College scholarship students must apply for the full programme on a full-time basis but they do not have to be resident at the College. They will be asked to write an essay and the award will be made based upon a combination of:

  •     the quality of the essay
  •     the student's application form
  •     a successful interview for a place on the masters programme
  •     evidence the individual can cover the remaining fees.

Scholarship applicants are also able to apply for a bursary at the same time. Scholarship statements are to be sent to: postgradadmin@schumachercollege.org.uk

How To Apply:
To apply for a scholarship please complete a written statement to the questions below for the programme of your choice.  The statement should be no longer than 500 words and submitted alongside or preceding your application to study at Schumacher College. 

The E.F. Schumacher Scholarship - MA Economics for Transition
Please answer the following question:

For Schumacher, writing 50 years ago, questions of scale were of the utmost importance to the transition to a humane and sustainable future.  In what ways do you think his insight remains relevant to the world of the early 21st century?

The David Orr Scholarship - MA Ecological Design Thinking
Please answer the following question.

It is now more than 25 years since the principles of ecological design were enunciated yet the practice of ecological design thinking has been slow to follow. Why do you think this is so and what would you do to improve the situation?


The Schumacher College Postgraduate Bursary Fund

We are keen to enable students in financial need to participate in our postgraduate programmes.  All students are eligible to apply for the Tuition Fees Bursary. The bursary fund is dependent on fundraising and varies each year. 

You may submit a bursary application with your postgraduate application.  Your bursary application will be not be considered until you have been offered a place and confirmed acceptance.

Chevening Scholarships Awards - applications have now closed for 2019/20

Chevening is the UK government’s international awards scheme aimed at developing global leaders. Funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and partner organisations, Chevening offers two types of award – Chevening Scholarships and Chevening Fellowships – the recipients of which are personally selected by British Embassies and High Commissions throughout the world.

The opportunity to apply for one of these awards is open to MA Economics for Transition and MA Ecological Design Thinking postgraduate programmes starting in September at the beginning of the academic year.  You need to make a separate application to the College and we highly recommend you make an application to Schumacher College and to Chevening at the same time.
