The latest from our College Gardens Produce Stall

As the days shorten, the leaves are falling and the harvest produce is abundant here in the Schumacher College gardens. We are glad to be continuing the stall into this second lock-down and beyond…

The stall will be open for business 7 days a week, 9.30am – 4.30am (approximately – this may vary slightly with weather and our other duties). Monday and Thursday afternoons are the best time for fresh produce as we harvest on those mornings. To find us take the lane down to the Craft Ed buildings past the Old Postern.

Produce you can expect this week are Leeks, Kale, Chard, Winter Salads, Apples, Carrots and Onions.

We enjoy getting to know our customers (when we are not in the field) so do come and say hello. And we welcome any feedback – especially photos of dishes you may have created. Tag us in on Instagram @growers_schumacher!

Our Veg of the Week is Yacón

Yacón is a south-American tuber that we’ve grow in our Forest Garden. Also, known as Peruvian ground apple, it is sweet, moist and crispy. It’s delicious eaten raw in salads or slaws - make sure you squeeze some lemon on it as they brown quickly once chopped. Or it is delicious roasted with garlic. It’s high in fibre, low in calories and has a prebiotic effect, meaning they feed beneficial bacteria in your digestive system!
