Alastair Sawday

Alastair Sawday studied law, then became a languages teacher, then worked with Asian refugees in the UK before working for VSO in London. He set up and ran Avon Friends of the Earth before founding his own travel company, specialising in walking and cycling tours, and pioneering ‘ethical’ travel in the late 80s. He turned to publishing in 1994 and is trying to use his books as gentle workers in the struggle to increase environmental awareness. He also publishes The Little Earth Book. His company tries hard to be a ‘green’ publishing company and recently won a Queen’s Award for Sustainable Development. He has stood as Green candidate for Parliament, and was Vice-Chair of the Soil Association.
