Galahad JD Clark
Galahad JD Clark: A seventh generation shoe maker from the Clarks family in Somerset; Galahad took over the running of Terra Plana in 2003. Galahad was attracted to the principles of Terra Plana: a respect for artisan shoe constructions, eco-friendly materials and modern design elements and set about transforming the fortunes of the brand. Every product was designed with a sustainable concept in mind and eco-friendly materials were actively sourced from all corners of the world. Sustainable design, according to Galahad, is just ‘good design’, products that are efficient, durable, light, enjoyed by users and don’t cause any unnecessary harm.
Collaborations with other disciplines (product designers, architects and environmental organizations) have helped Galahad and Terra Plana continue to break new ground on the footwear landscape with the introduction of VivoBarefoot in 2004 (ultra thin Kevlar protected soles) and, in collaboration with Anti Apathy, Worn Again (99% recycled shoes and accessories) in 2005. Terra Plana won the Observer Ethical Fashion Product of Year 2007.
