Seeing With New Eyes
Next week Schumacher College, UK in conjunction with Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Garden (KFBG), Hong Kong will be delivering Seeing With New Eyes. This course will be led by Satish Kumar, who was centrally involved in founding Schumacher College in nearly 20 years ago, acted as the Programme Director until 2009 and continues to contribute to curriculum and learning.
This pilot course, running from March 4th to 6th 2010, is part of our Schumacher in China Programme, and is a pilot course for our planned China partnership with the Kadoorie Institute. It has been offered to the staff and close associates of KFBG. It will be used to develop the course framework and content with a view to offering similar courses to the public and change agents in the future.
The course design will blend intellectual discourse, practical hands on work, and exploration of the magical beauty of the Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Gardens including the sacred mountain of Kwun Yum Shan, with the aim of connecting participants to nature and their inner selves so as to be better prepared to face the challenges facing us as we strive to help the people of Hong Kong and South China live within the limits of nature.
Elements of the course include: Exploring the interrelatedness of ecology and the threats to ecology; story telling; hands-on farming to connect us to the soil and our food; deepening our relationship with the forest through contemplation, writing, drawing and silent walking and inspirational guidance from the course leader, Satish Kumar.
Members of the public who are interested in hearing Satish Kumar speak whilst he is in Hong Kong can book a place on a luncheon through the Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Garden.
