Schumacher students explode Seed-Bomb
Students on the Schumacher Certificate in Education programme, many themselves experienced educators, are due to launch ‘Seed-Bomb’, an educational conference with a difference at the University of Bradford on Monday 13th October.
All education and change practitioners, the students are organising the one-day conference to exchange ideas and share innovative practice from the Schumacher Certificate in Education and their personal experiences.
The event will feature a number of participative sessions and discussions to explore different approaches to education for sustainability. The sharing of ideas between the Schumacher students, visitors and academic staff will have an international validity as participants represent institutions and educational centers around the globe.
The Schumacher students are a dynamic group of education change agents and their projects demonstrate the diversity of initiatives generated and supported through the Schumacher programme. Prof. Waverli Neuberger and Dr. Vicente Manzione of Sao Paulo Methodist University in Brazil will present and lead a conference workshop around a new initiative to embed sustainability across their own University. Maggie Alexander is currently setting up a cultural exchange project between India and the UK, and Mark Skipper has worked in collaboration with the Transition Cambridge Education Sub-group to create community based workshops on individual choices for sustainable futures.
The name Seed-Bomb originates from Masanobu Fukuoka, the great pioneer of sustainable agriculture who developed the idea of a seed bomb, a collection of different seeds that can be dropped in a desert and germinate to create a self-sustaining ecosystem.
Kyoto Tadaoka, one of the event organisers said “we see this day as a bowl of seeds that we bring as a gift to scatter in Bradford and allow their potential to unfold”.
External visitors are welcome to attend Seed-Bomb. For further information, please email ecoversity@bradford.ac.uk or call Ecoversity on 01274 236 929.
