Satish Kumar to Visit Australia in May

International sustainability leader and Gandhian peace activist, Satish Kumar, will visit Australia in early May to brief business, government and community representatives about global sustainability issues and initiatives.

Satish Kumar is the Program Director and founder of Schumacher College. He is also the editor of the international sustainability journal Resurgence. Satish has worked at the frontiers of sustainable business, community and education around the world for over 30 years.

His visit to Australia between May 5 and 15 coincides with the release of the Howard Government’s 2007 federal budget and Satish is well placed to comment on Australia’s current approaches to sustainability and climate change.

Australia’s first not for profit ecological learning and land restoration organisation the Ethos Foundation (based in the mountains of South East Queensland), is hosting Satish’s Australian tour.

Ethos Foundation Executive Officer Sally MacKinnon said: ‘Satish worked closely with E.F. Schumacher – economist and author of the groundbreaking book Small is Beautiful: Economics as if people mattered. He has a deep affinity with the work of Mahatma Gandhi and now collaborates closely with leading sustainability innovators and visionaries including Jonathon Porritt, Vandana Shiva, Fritjov Capra, Stephan Harding, James Lovelock and Helena Norberg-Hodge.

‘Satish’s wisdom and insight about deep sustainablity, social change, community resilience, localisation, globalisation and peace is unparalleled,’ she said.

Satish Kumar is making presentations in Brisbane, Warwick, Tweed Heads, Bangalow, Sydney and Melbourne between May 5 and 15.
