Are you ready to explore new forms of education?
The Certificate in Education for Sustainability, which starts in February 09, is a vocational programme in holistic, transformative and adult education – for educators, facilitators and change agents.
In these critical times, we need new forms of education and a new generation of educators. Questions of sustainability and the cultural change necessary offer exciting challenges and opportunities to go beyond what we currently understand as education. The Certificate in Education provides students with the space and encouragement to explore these issues and develop practical solutions to pressing educational concerns.
Enquiries about teacher training programmes have soared by almost a third since March according to the Training and Development Agency for Schools (TDA). If you too are considering a change of career or you would like to take your teaching practice in a new direction, why not apply for the Schumacher Certificate in Education?
|
Past participants of the Certificate in Education include: Prof. Waverli Neuberger and Dr. Vicente Manzione of Sao Paulo Methodist University in Brazil who are creating a new initiative to embed sustainability across their University. Maggie Alexander is currently setting up a cultural exchange project between India and the UK, and Mark Skipper has worked in collaboration with the Transition Cambridge Education Sub-group to create community based workshops on individual choices for sustainable futures.

Real Food, Slow Food: Rethinking How We Eat
An evening with Carlo Petrini and Andrew Whitley
|
Schumacher College, Slow Food Devon and Slow Food Plymouth invite you to share an evening of discussion, ideas and food on Wednesday 19th November at 7.30pm in the Great Hall, Dartington.
We will be joined by Carlo Petrini (founder of the Slow Food movement) and Andrew Whitley (traditional baker and founder of the Village Bakery and Bread Matters), two champions of a saner, healthier and more sustainable food system for an evening that we hope will be as interesting and informative as it will be delicious.
Following the discussions and questions, visitors will be able to sample food from local producers and bread made by Andrew in the Schumacher kitchens that day.

Remembering Tom Welch and Helen Kidd.
|
Schumacher College has lost two friends in recent months.
Tom Welch who passed away in August, was well known to many local people in and around Dartington, and especially the staff here at Schumacher. As a member of the regular ‘Tuesday Group’, Tom met to discuss sustainability issues affecting the community. He was known as a man of strong will and determined action, a leader and initiator of environmental projects.
Tom will be remembered for setting up the Yarner Trust on the Dartington Estate, a school of self-sufficiency that has since moved to north Devon and flourishes there. He also supported a permaculture project on his land from about 1986-1990 and was responsible for planting hundreds of trees in the local area.
Anyone who joined us for either Earth and the Sacred in July last year or Inspired Leadership this spring, may remember Helen Kidd. We were very sorry to hear that Helen passed away suddenly only a few weeks ago.
We remember Tom and Helen fondly, and our sympathies are with their friends and families at this sad time.
