What is the Schumacher Certificate in Sustainable Health?

The Certificate in Sustainable Health is a modular course over nine months that provides an important opportunity to explore a holistic approach which integrates the worlds of practitioner and patients, the needs of people in different countries; the work of patient care with the empowerment that follows improved self care, and the business of health care. Participants will also investigate the benefits of simple exercises, natural treatments and home remedies.

Who is it for?

This course is for health care managers, professional practitioners in conventional and alternative health, public policy makers at all levels, health consultants, human resource managers with health care portfolios and individuals with an interest in or responsibility for the health and wellbeing of others.
The programme culminates with each participant developing a proposal for future work. It will therefore be of interest to anyone wishing to change or deepen their current practice; to develop a new health care initiative or as support during transition to a new career path.

How does it work?

Participants, facilitators and expert teachers will explore each theme of the course through lectures and group discussions. This will be combined with time in smaller groups, sign-up tutorial options, field trips, cooking and gardening and space for the group to self organise within the ongoing rhythm of living within a learning community at Schumacher College.
The course will provide:

*The theoretical tools to build new models of health care, to engage in appropriate research, and to support well being at work and home.

*An opportunity to challenge the normal structure and expectations around health care

*Practical ideas, skills and essential resources

*A participative learning process

*Creative processes for designing and delivering therapy

*A strong learning community of peers

*The opportunity to develop your own project and transform your practice
