20th Anniversary Appeal

As you may already be aware, 2011 marks the 20th anniversary of Schumacher College. It is also the centenary of the birth of E.F. Schumacher whose work was inspirational in the founding of the College. This 20th Anniversary marks an important milestone in the College’s history. Thank you if you have been part of creating these first amazing 20 years.

In the last 20 years, we have been continually inspired by the commitment of those who have come to Schumacher College. However, we are very mindful of the significant challenges that our planet faces today – some of which we knew of in 1991 – but these challenges have become even more complex since then. All the more reason for us to work together to find solutions for our collective future.

Schumacher College is more vital than ever to finding those solutions. But we need your support.

The College currently needs to raise around £250,000 this year, in addition to the generous support of The Dartington Hall Trust and our other funders. These funds are vital to the future of our programmes and to help us reach those who can make a difference around the world through Schumacher courses.

To help support our programmes, we are inviting you to make a donation to the College in our 20th Anniversary year.

We are suggesting a gift of at least £100 to help us achieve our goal. However, please be as generous as you can. Your gift, however large or small, will help us greatly and be enormously encouraging. Your donation will go directly to the Schumacher College Foundation and be earmarked for our programmes including the following:

• Increasing our bursary fund which supports inspiring and dedicated individuals of all ages and backgrounds, enabling them to benefit from the College and make creative contributions to this movement regardless of their financial situation.
• Funding teaching posts in our rapidly developing areas of work including the economics of transition, sustainable food and farming and for our green skilling, eco design and building courses.
• Funding the expansion of the Schumacher online programme so that we can offer courses at a distance, enabling those who are unable to come to the College to be supported in their work and have access to the best of our teaching support and resources.
• To fund our library which to date has operated on a shoestring and desperately needs additional funding for books and learning resources. This marvellous place and its collection of books which have inspired so many.
• To fund the development of our Schumacher Worldwide programme through which we hope to deliver Schumacher courses in countries such as Brazil, India, China and beyond.
• To fund the development of our new eco build training centre. This involves the renovation of a barn into a centre for the training of craft skills in green building.
