We want to share with you some exciting news regarding forthcoming activities: We have a new seminar in London, new teachers, a whole new programme to plan and some of you are joining us in setting up your new enterprises in a course later this month. So off with the old autumn leaves and in with the new activities…

New seminar in London: Cultures of Sustainability: Reflections from Schumacher College

Schumacher College regularly hosts the most influential of speakers from around the world as part of our courses. In this satellite event, some of the College’s own faculty will be joined by distinguished visiting teachers to discuss the current situation of global sustainability. Themes will cover a wide range of thinking on development practice, Gaia theory, nature and culture and the role of education. The audience will be encouraged to participate in the discussions and, with the panel, establish some new parameters for debate and action for now and the future.
Speakers include: Vandana Shiva, Gustavo Esteva, Karen Blincoe, Satish Kumar, Brian Goodwin, David Orr, Stephan Harding

This special seminar in London is being held during the 3-week course at the college entitled: Development: What next? With Gustavo Esteva, Vandana Shiva, Daleep Mukarji and Clare Short MP. The course will provide participants with an in-depth understanding of where sustainable development now stands, and how it is viewed in different parts of the world. They will go away with ideas for ways forward which can ensure that poverty and environmental degradation are effectively addressed.


Ethical Pioneers: An interactive masterclass for the new entrepreneur

This course is designed for existing and aspiring ethical entrepreneurs who are developing a project and want to move their vision forward. You may be experienced in mainstream business and wish to move into the world of sustainability, or your experience may be in the world of activism or education and you wish to set up a successful new enterprise. Projects may include small to medium sized businesses; educational establishments; charities, organisations and networks.

Learn from leaders in the field, build your networks and develop essential skills to start your enterprise and help it thrive.

New teacher announcement: James Marriott to teach on Creating Nature Course

James Marriott is a writer, artist, activist and naturalist. He is a Co-Director of PLATFORM, which since 1983 has brought together artists and activists to create projects and campaigns that help the struggle for ecological & social justice in London, PLATFORM’s home, and distant elsewheres impacted by that metropolis.
