Responding to the urgent needs of planet and society we want to reach as many people as possible with our work by enhancing the range and scope of our activities whilst maintaining the practice of education on a human scale.
Over the next few years our aim is to deliver programmes that reach over twice as many people as we do now, together with the possibility of engaging thousands more worldwide with our open learning and outreach initiatives.
Our plans include:
These activities will become integral to our work, complementing and enhancing our well established short course programme, MSc in Holistic Science, and Certificate in Sustainable Horticulture.
Our plans are to run four Masters programmes, an extensive vocational greenskilling programme, a short course programme and an international outreach and open learning programme by 2014. We are developing a broader range of practical, land based programmes as the College positions itself to support education, experimentation and enterprise across the Dartington estate. Our challenge is to deliver this, reaching more people in more flexible and accessible ways, and to achieve financial self sufficiency by 2014.
Additional residential students may be based at Higher Close or the Courtyard (Dartington Hall). Some new courses will be non residential. We will also be reconfiguring the Old Postern campus to create some more bedrooms there.
We are working on how to offer a unique Schumacher experience which involves virtual learning environments. We have appointed staff to lead on this work. While we will be exploring new technology and online activities, we also know that a key feature of Schumacher courses is learning-by-doing and creating a learning experience within a residential community. Therefore, anything we offer must complement and enhance this. Achieving this balance is an exciting challenge, but so too is our concern to support more people around the world at this critical time. We anticipate having some new online learning activities available in 2011 to demonstrate this.
A key way to support Schumacher is to book courses that interest you. This means you benefit from the educational experience, and we can use this income to support our educational activities.
If you have already been to the College, spread the word about our activities. We are always happy to talk to past and prospective participants about who we are and what we do.
Make a donation to the College which you can do directly with us or through the main Dartington website. You can ask for your funds to be directed towards our activities at the point of donation.
