Carlo Petrini founded Slow Food, an international organisation which has progressed from campaigning for quality food to demanding that food be produced in environmentally and socially responsible ways – as well as tasting delicious. He will explain how the debate about the future of food and agriculture is closely linked to issues of environmental and public health, poverty and social justice, land reform and the energy crisis.
Andrew Whitley will focus on bread, which like so many other foods has become industrialised and de-natured, leading to widespread wheat intolerance and other nutritional problems. His Real Bread Campaign aims to bring British bread back to life and make home baking and small-scale production more widespread.
After questions and discussion time, there will be the opportunity to carry on the conversations and enjoy samples from local producers who are involved with Slow Food, as well as bread made with Andrew in the Schumacher College kitchens that day.
This event run alongside a Schumacher College course Real Food, Slow Food: Championing sustainable food
