Sustainability and Leadership
Leaders need a personal route towards inner and outer sustainability. Furthermore, achieving real progress towards sustainability requires identifying the right goals and strategies, and creating ownership of these processes within organisations.

Those on this participatory Mythodrama workshop will benefit from a unique form of experiential learning that combines theatre practice, psychology and philosophy with organisational development. The sessions utilise Shakespeare’s timeless play As You Like It. Participants will explore for themselves a fascinating journey of renewal, philosophical thinking, creative expression and new possibilities, an invaluable process for leaders in sustainability.
An experiential Mythodrama seminar for senior executives committed to engaging the big issue of our time.
Mythodrama is a new and highly successful form of leadership development. Its unique methodology combines great stories, theatre practice, psychology and philosophy with organisational development techniques to provide transformational learning events.
This workshop uses the fascinating journey of renewal coded into Shakespeare’s timeless tale As You Like It to explore the keys to sustainability – in ourselves, our teams and organisations, and for our planet. No previous knowledge of the play is necessary as the story is told as the backdrop for participants to discover the path to resilience for themselves. What do we need to do – and who do we need to be – to become truly sustainable at this point in time?
The story starts in a troubled court, where a dominant culture impedes the development of future potential. As the pressure mounts people turn to the forest as a place of refuge. There old habits give way to new ways of being. Through engaging in philosophical dialogue and creative expression previously unknown new possibilities begin to emerge. By the end the people are restored, new relationships are forged and the land is regenerated for a sustainable future.
Participants will benefit from a variety of learning approaches; including formal input, shared discussion, creative exercises, in-depth coaching and time in nature. Each leader will leave with a deep understanding of inner and outer sustainability and an action plan as to how to put it into practice.
The part of the programme that had the greatest personal impact was the very clever link between Shakespeare and the present crisis of leadership. Richards’s story, feeling and presentation skills are excellent!
The greatest personal aspect of the programme was the self awareness created in analysing my leadership strengths and weaknesses, including stimulating me to address my leadership weaknesses.
I would recommend the programme to anyone as it has such an important and powerful message about authentic, values-based leadership.
Richard Olivier is Artistic Director of Olivier Mythodrama. He is at the leading edge of bringing the world of theatre into the development of authentic leaders. From 1999-2005 he was the Master of Mythodrama at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre.
Olivier Mythodrama was formed in 2001 and now works with senior executives and learning institutions across all sectors including; Nokia, Daimler, HSBC, The Cabinet Office, International Atomic Energy Agency, United Nations, Columbia Business School and INSEAD.
Olivier Mythodrama’s highly experiential, “acting-in” approach means that participants learn on an intellectual, emotional and physical level. This makes for profound learning – and a great deal of fun in the process.
Mythodrama is an arts-based way of exploring issues such as leadership or presentation. It is a synthesis of story-telling and theatre skills. The “myth” derives from the archetypal, Jungian school of story-telling as explored by Joseph Campbell and others, while the “drama” refers to the rehearsal-room methodology of the theatre, which encourages actors to explore and flesh out their roles before “shrinking to fit” when called upon to perform.
