This page contains information about term dates for 2010/11.

2010/11

Term One : Thursday 2 September – Friday 17 December 2010

Teaching begins on Monday 6 September 2010, but students are invited to arrive from the afternoon of Thursday 2 September in order to familiarise themselves with the College surroundings and settle in. The College hosts a Welcome Supper for all new MSc students on the evening of Friday 3 September 2010.

Christmas 2010 and New Year 2011

Students may remain living in the College after term ends up to Thursday 23 December. The College then closes between Christmas and the New Year, when all students, resident staff and others in the College community are expected to leave the College (though they may leave their belongings in their rooms during the holidays).

Term Two : Tuesday 4 January – Thursday 21 April 2011

Students may arrive back at the College after the Christmas and New Year holiday from Sunday 2 January 2011. Monday 3 January is a UK Bank Holiday, so that the first Schumacher College short course of the year, which will be one of the MSc in Holistic Scieince options, will start on Tuesday 4 January.

The term ends just before Easter, 22 – 25 April 2011. Most students will be expected to leave the College at this time to work on their dissertation projects.

Accommodation for MSc students beyond Easter 2011

All students will be working earnestly on their dissertation projects from this time, and many will need to travel overseas to carry out their research.
Students who wish to remain living at the College after 21 April may be able to do so by special arrangement, depending upon room availability. They must discuss and agree this with the College in advance, no later than the start of the second term. Some students may opt to find private accommodation locally. Either way, all students may continue to use College facilities (i.e. the library, MSc classroom and computers) throughout the course programme beyond April 2011 through to late July 2011, when the Dartington International Summer School begins.

International Summer School – Summer 2011

Students are advised that from late July through August 2011 the College and its accommodation blocks are occupied by visiting musicians who attend the Dartington International Summer Music School. MSc students may still use the computer room and MSc classroom, and the College library by special arrangement, but there are no snack or meal facilities in the College during this time.

Schumacher College is part of the Dartington Hall Trust, a company limited by guarantee, registered in England and as a charity (company no. 1485560, charity no. 279756). Registered office: The Elmhirst Centre, Dartington Hall, Totnes, Devon TQ9 6EL, UK.
