Food and accommodation for MSc Students

During the first term (4 September – 19 December 2008) all food and accommodation is provided.

Food and accommodation during the short courses in the second term

The second term for the MSc runs from Sunday 4 January to Sunday 29 March, totalling 12 weeks. The two short course options each student must attend will take up six of these weeks, each being of three weeks duration. The Schumacher College fees of £9,705 include food and accommodation for all 12 weeks of the second term. Historically, students prefer to stay in the College even while they are not taking a short course, in order to use the library facilities, have one-to-one tutorials with faculty staff, and to participate in and enjoy living amongst the vibrant and stimulating environment of the College, which in itself is an important aspect of the learning experience this unique masters degree offers MSc in Holistic Science students. However, students do have the option to vacate their College room for all or part of the six weeks of the second term when they are not taking a short course, when their Schumacher College fees will be reduced accordingly by £125 per week. Students opting to rent locally may still attend the College for meals and are charged at £5 per meal (and must let the kitchen know at least one day beforehand when they will be eating College meals).

MSc students wanting to remain in the locality of the College must find their own accommodation for the remainder of the programme from the last Sunday after the short course options, 29 March 2009.

All MSc in Holistic Science students are invited to the MSc Spring Celebration on Saturday 28 March, where all MSc students may come together in the College as a group, possibly for the last time during the MSc programme. Food and accommodation for Saturday 28 March is included in the course fees, but all students must vacate their rooms on Sunday 29 March.

It may be possible for students to store their belongings in their College room if they choose to go away while they are not taking a short course in the second term, but this entirely depends on whether the accommodation is needed for short course participants. Under these circumstances, the College will store students’ belongings under safekeeping elsewhere on the College premises, at no charge. Students must notify both of the MSc and College Administrators by 30 November 2008 of their accommodation requirements for the second term.

The possible combinations of short courses and the six-week ‘windows’ when MSc students may opt to vacate their College rooms and thereby reduce their fees are as follows:
